Resilience in Zhytomyr

Date : 01-08-2025

In 2022, one of Zhytomyr's district heating boiler houses was hit by a Russian airstrike.

Although the structure survived and has since been fully repaired, Russian attacks on Ukrainian infrastructure are intensifying. Ukrainians now face the risk of longer and more frequent power and heating outages. During the 2024/25 heating season, Zhytomyr’s district heating company experienced 1,078 power disruptions across its boiler houses.

With support from E5P donors, Zhytomyr’s heating company is working to maintain a stable and sustainable supply of heat to homes, hospitals, and public services for over 250,000 residents – even as critical energy infrastructure continues to face repeated attacks.
