Heating Chernivtsi through war
Date : 29-08-2025
Like many Ukrainian cities, Chernivtsi has been put under immense pressure by Russia's war. The district heating company has lost staff to mobilisation and faced shortages of spare parts. Yet it has kept improving its infrastructure.
With support from an E5P grant and loans from the EBRD and CIF Clean Technology Fund, the company is replacing ageing pipelines, installing individual heat substations, and preparing a biomass boiler to reduce gas use.
These investments will result in more reliable, efficient, and sustainable heating for over 270,000 people living here, helping the city stay warm through war.
