Grant approved! Upgrading waste water networks in Shaki

Date : 14-11-2025

The UNESCO city of Shaki in Azerbaijan is known for its cobbled streets and mountain views. But many people living here face daily challenges from ageing water infrastructure. Around 70% don’t have access to a sewage system, and one in five lack a regular water supply.

With support from an EBRD loan and an E5P grant, the city’s water and wastewater networks are being expanded and modernised. The project will provide 33,000 residents with safe drinking water and 71,000 with proper sanitation, while new stormwater drains will help protect homes from floods.

Families here will gain what should never be out of reach – reliable water and safe sanitation.
